This is a map of the homelands of the four temperaments (four main types of personalities), inspired by the work of David Kiersey, who linked up the historical theories of four major temperaments of personality with Myers-Briggs preferences.
The land of the two “Intuitive” (meaning abstract thinking) types lie to to the north— these are the lands of the Intuitive Feelers (NFs) and Intuitive Thinkers (NTs). ”Intuitives” are also represented by the letter N in the Myers-Briggs.
The homelands of the two “Sensor” types (who take information in concretely, and are more rooted in the world of the 5 senses) are in the South. In the Myers-Briggs, these types— Sensing Perceivers (SPs) and Sensing Judgers (SJs), share the letter “S” in common.
On the map, a mountain range separates the two regions, (since Intuitives have their “heads in the clouds”) ;) and in order to get from North to South you have to go through “Practicality Pass.”
In the center of the map— where the four lands meet— lies Mount Truth. The colors of all four lands are reflected in its snows, since no one country perfectly represents or encompasses it.
From the heart of Mount Truth flows Genius Geyser, the birthplace of the four rivers— one for each temperament: The River of Dreams-(Intuitive Feelers-NF), The River of Knowledge (Intuitive Thinkers— NT), the River of Gladness (Sensing Perceivers- SP), and the River of Realism (for the Sensing Judgers-SJ).
I developed this map for an Artist’s and Writer’s Workshop that I lead this summer, in order to visualize Myers-Briggs theory and introduce the class to the four temperaments. To order prints of this map, please visit mcxp.bigcartel.com
